This Poor, Starving Dog Almost Didn't Make It, But He Was Rescued Just In Time

People who work for animal rescue organizations have to be able to brace themselves against all kinds of heartbreaking stories. Yet sometimes, even the most hardened veterans of animal rescues are thrown by cases like that of Odysseus.

Found tied to a fence outside a church in Fulton County, Georgia, Odysseus was severely malnourished.

He weighed only 28 pounds when he was rescued, and his condition moved workers to tears.

Odysseus needed immediate emergency care, and thanks to the workers at Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, he’s on the road to recovery.

Rescuers think Odysseus may be a boxer mix, but he was so emaciated, they couldn’t really tell. They’ll likely have a better idea of his breed when he’s healthier.

He’s been through a lot, but he’s still a sweetheart despite his hardships.

Angels Among Us is currently accepting donations to fund Odysseus’ recovery and treatments, as well as for other animals in need. You can learn more about this organization on their website and on Facebook.

This Dog Was Abandoned And Left To Die On The Streets...Luckily They Found Her

It’s unimaginable how many people in the L.A. area must have walked by this dog in dire need of rescue before one anonymous Good Samaritan contacted Ghetto Rescue Ffoundation (GRFF). She was really far gone, and it’s hard to tell exactly how long she was out there, but it was clearly too long. Luckily, the foundation, in collaboration with volunteers and the LAPD, set up a rescue operation as soon as possible.

This is Spirit Golden Heart, named by the anonymous caller.

She only weighed 26 pounds and had maggots in her open wounds, as well as big, full ticks leeching her blood.

This was back on August 1. Since then, she’s received tons of medical care and affection.

The ticks and maggots were meticulously removed from her skin, and she’s been all cleaned up.

Next comes the hard part.

Spirit is incredibly weak, and it’s difficult for her to stand for more than just a short period of time.

She is on a high-protein diet, and her red blood cell count is on the rise…

But she still needs to be carried to go use the potty outside, as she is still suffering from swollen joints and general weakness.

She’s a small girl, as far as pit bulls go…

But her heart and will to live are both big as ever.

Her doctors are still running many tests on her to figure out why her joints are swollen…

So far they can’t seem to find a cause. Her liver is alright and it has nothing to do with the ticks. Hopefully they will find the problem soon so her road to recovery can get a big boost.

In the meantime, all they can do is hope for the very best.

And, of course, keep her on that high-protein, high-love diet she’s on.

Thank goodness for that one kind soul who finally called the right people to get this desperate pup the help she needed. She was so close to death, it’s a miracle she’s still with us today. If you’d like to help cover her vet bills, you’ll only increase her chances of making it out of this ordeal happy and healthy.

This Dog's Adoption Transformation Reveals The Cutie Hiding Beneath All That Fur

You know how your mom always told you not to judge a book by its cover? Well, she wasn’t just talking about how you should really give the geeky guy a chance instead of spending all your time daydreaming about the football player.

When this couple stumbled upon a scraggly-looking pup, he was so disheveled that he resembled more of a mini sheepdog than his handsome self. His overgrown fur was matted with dirt and grime from being lost or abandoned, but after they brought him into their family, things started looking much brighter for the sweet little guy.

This is how they discovered the poor guy, but no amount of fur could hide that happy face.

After a visit to the vet and the groomer, he was a brand-new dog!

Now in a loving home, he’s gotten quite accustomed to a dapper lifestyle.

He goes by Harry these days, the perfect name for a perfect gentleman.

Sometimes he’s super chill, but still stylish.

And, y’know, just like every other regular pup…

“Cone of shame? That’s so last season.”

“What’s the thread count on these sheets?”

The cuddly trendsetter makes his parents’ lives look better than ever.

You wouldn’t even know he was once that matted mess of fur — what a transformation!

Thank goodness Harry’s kind humans brought him into their home and helped him become the happy, healthy, and mega-handsome pooch he was meant to be.
