This Artist Takes Fallen Leaves And Turns Them Into Beautiful Art

There’s no doubt that autumn foliage is beautiful, since it sets the landscape ablaze in orange and red. But after the leaves fall and become crunchy and brown, it’s easy to forget about them. That, however, is not the case for Polish painter Joanna Wirazka, who turns to something other than traditional paper to create her artwork during the fall — something that’s free and abundant.

Wirazka paints on fallen leaves, turning them into tiny landscapes by using acrylic paints. The leaves are naturally very fragile, which makes the level of detail that she achieves all the more impressive.

Painting on leaves isn’t easy. Wirazka must contend with the small size, uneven texture, and brittleness of them — but she pulls it off beautifully. From nature and space scenes, to cityscapes and famous landmarks, her leaves become tiny windows into the world.

On average, a leaf painting takes Wirazka about three hours to complete.

You can see more of Wirazka’s seasonal art, as well as her more traditional pieces, on Instagram. She also has some words of wisdom for all of us: “Art makes the world better and more beautiful. Try to find real art everywhere and let it inspire you.”

Hoodies Are Always Awesome, But These Are Seriously The Best

We don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy a good hoodie. These essential pieces of clothing are comfortable, functional, and versatile. Plus, they have hoods, which not only keep your ears and neck warm, but also make you feel cool and mysterious at the same time. (Just me? Okay.)

But besides being practical, hoodies can also be downright awesome in the design department. Here are some of the best hoodies we’ve come across online.

1. The Mewgaroo Hoodie lets you hang out with a friend.

2. When you’re rescuing a princess and you just need to blend in, this Stormtrooper hoodie will do the trick.

3. This hoodie doubles as a thermometer, but we’re not vouching for its accuracy.

4. Surreal twists on classic designs can be eye (or waist) catching.

5. This hoodie has a simple design, but you can unzip it for a traditional Vulcan greeting.

6. There are times when you want to tell the world that you’re a courageous warrior, but you don’t want to sacrifice comfort.

7. You can be your own Hero of Time with this hoodie. It even has a built-in sword that you can still (probably) take on an airplane.

Don’t quote us on that.

8. This hoodie helps you keep an eye on crime, even when you’re staring off into nothingness…because what else can you do in a hoodie?

9. Of course, people of all sizes need to be dinosaurs every now and then.

10. And if dinosaurs aren’t their thing, they can always be tiny sharks.

11. Of course, you’re never too old to take the form of a fantasy creature — in this case, a Pokemon.

12. And sometimes, you just need to get your goth on.

13. This one is perfect for bringing the drama.

14. And it’s always nice to have a buddy.

15. You don’t have to be a human to want in on the coziness!

These should inspire you to snuggle up in your own favorite hoodie, especially now that autumn is upon us. If you find that you (gasp!) don’t have a favorite hoodie, you should go out and get one! Preferably one of these. If any of them appeal to you, follow those links in the headings!

Get A Jump Start On Fall With This Autumnally Delicious Panini

We don’t like to admit it, but summer will, in about a month and a half, come to an end. The days will get shorter, the nights colder, and the leaves will begin to turn from green to reds and yellows. But don’t be sad — for one thing, August is far from over, so you still have plenty of time for fun in the sun. For another, fall is awesome! And this savory, spicy panini is a great way to get into the autumnal swing. Even in August.

Meet the Pants-ini.

This recipe comes to us via Tarika Narain over at Spoon University. She named this sandwich the “Pants-ini” in honor of the cooling weather — because the days of shorts become the days of pants.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices cranberry walnut bread

  • 4 tablespoons maple almond butter

  • 4 tablespoons maple chèvre

  • ½ an apple

  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

Spread the maple almond butter evenly on both slices of bread.

Slice your apples and your goat cheese.

Place the apple and cheese slices on one of the pieces of bread.

Place the other bread slice on top and cook for about seven minutes in a greased panini press.

If you don’t have a panini press, you can cook it in a frying pan like a grilled cheese, pressing with a metal spatula.

Now enjoy your autumnal goodness.

Okay, you don’t have to wait until fall for this. It’s a great sandwich any time of year, especially when you want something to remind you of the joys of autumn.
