This Is What Happens Inside Every Plane Before Takeoff -- Did You Have Any Idea?

Waiting to board a flight usually means impatiently standing in front of the airline’s gate, tapping your foot, and incessantly checking your cell phone. What you most likely don’t think about, though, is what the flight crew needs to do in order to prepare the plane for your arrival.

This is what the crew does in the 15 minutes before you even step onto the plane. It’s a flurry of busy tasks!

So, the next time you’re sighing and waiting to board, remember…there is probably a good reason for every single delay. The attendants need to clean, be briefed on aircraft details, and make sure nothing is left behind. Don’t be impatient — be thankful!

The Reason This Family Is Camped Out At A Russian Airport Is So Heartbreaking

Being a refugee isn’t easy — and it’s an experience most of us can’t even begin to relate to. Even if you can make it safely to your destination, there are so many challenges to face in your new life. Often, the journey to your destination can be fraught with roadblocks, disappointment, and suffering.

With the ongoing wars in Syria and Iraq, countless families attempting to flee to brighter and safer futures get stuck in foreign European countries due to complicated bureaucratic hurdles. Sometimes, governments work out the kinks in a reasonable amount of time. However, it’s common for refugees get stuck in limbo with no end in sight.

Hasan Abdul Ahmad’s family of six has been stuck at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport for almost two whole months.

Both he and his wife are folk musicians, and they decided to flee their war-torn home to start all over again in a safer place.

When they arrived in Russia, they were told that their passports and their visas were fake.

Russian authorities accused them of illegally trying to cross the border and denied them asylum.

For 50 days, they’ve been living in an old smoking room, with all of their belongings stacked in piles.

All they can do is wait for their appeal to be addressed.

Until then, they’re relying on the kindness of passersby.

Luckily, there are many sympathetic souls that give them money, food, and toys for the children. The UN also comes by every few days to drop off large jugs of drinking water.

Listening to 13-year-old Rinas speak about his family’s struggle is heartbreaking.

The Syrian government recently confirmed that their passports and visas are, in fact, real.

But they are still confined to their airport prison until Russian officials consider the case sometime in the next few weeks.

It’s important to remember that this is just one of thousands of families struggling with their freedom. You can donate to help Syrian children in refugee camps in bordering countries. But you can also help by raising awareness of this extremely pressing and heartbreaking problem.

What a Wonderful Welcome

What a Wonderful Welcome! Ed Zamora surprised his wife of 33 years Melody this afternoon upon arrival at Austin-Bergstrom. Melody was returning home from a two week trip to Spain. Ed showed up in Bag Claim with flowers in one hand and his trumpet in the other. When his wife stepped foot on the escalator, Ed took a deep breath and serenaded her all the way down by playing their song, “What a Wonderful World!” And that’s what you call, a wonderful welcome! Ed & Melody, thanks for sharing your special moment with us! And welcome home Mrs. Zamora!

The fluorescents will have to do as a sunset for now.

There’s nothing sweeter than seeing two people still truly in love after spending a third of a century together. Congrats on being adorable, Melody and Ed, and thanks for making my day!

We Only Suggest Flying Into This Airport If You're Extremely Brave

If you have ever traveled on an airplane before, then you’ve experienced the sudden jarring motions of a plane landing. You felt a sudden thud as the plane’s wheels hit the runway and the brakes did everything they could to slow the giant craft to a screeching halt. These landings can be rough, but trust us, you have not experienced the worst.

Birmingham Airport in the U.K. is home to perilous crosswinds, which often make landing a plane a lot more terrifying than a simple touch-down. Pilots are often forced to “push” the plane down onto the BHX runway by merely floating onto it. This creates a startling effect that tests the nerves of seasoned pilots from around the world. Watch the treacherous landings below, and hope that you never have to experience such a fright.

You know you’re in for an unconventional landing when your plane gives up and flies away to try again. I don’t think I could ever stomach this!

A Lost Toy Gets An Airport Adventure Before Returning Home

In what is likely the realization of many a childhood nightmare, six-year-old Owen Lake left his traveling companion behind. The stuffed tiger, Hobbes, was stranded at Tampa International Airport while making the journey to Houston.

Luckily for Hobbes and Owen, the stuffed companion was picked up by airport personnel. While he didn’t get to go to Houston, Hobbes did have a great adventure at the airport, learning the ins and outs of Tampa International, like the VIP he is.

Hobbes checks the weather over the FAA control tower.

He also went on a luggage delivery run to the nearby Marriott hotel…

…and stopped for some gelato.

He got to see some behind-the-scenes action, as well, like how everything is kept in order in the busy airport…

…and how the planes are kept clean and shiny.

He even went into some pretty restricted areas!

But after a week, it was time to go home.

Owen and his family returned to the airport after their trip, where he was reunited with Hobbes. Owen was also given a photo album of Hobbes’ adventures in the airport, so he and Hobbes could compare journeys. Owen’s mom was overjoyed at the airport’s kindness. “It was very, very sweet,” she said. “We already told him over and over that Hobbes was on an adventure, so it was nice to get back and show him that Hobbes really had been on an adventure.”

Now that Hobbes and Owen are both experienced travelers, perhaps we’ll see more of their adventures — hopefully together this time! And Tampa International Airport wasn’t the only group to welcome Hobbes. On their Twitter, you can see the rest of the people who chipped in to give Hobbes the time of his stuffed life. See more great shots and airplane fun on their Instagram and Facebook.
