Manipulating photos have become a popular art form where photographs are digitally altered, combined, and rearranged to create new and often surreal images. They can actually become very complex, but artist and photographer Stephen McMennamy shows in his “Combo Photos,” that sometimes creating a surreal image is as easy as sticking two photos together.
“Combo Photos” is an ongoing series in which McMennamy splits two photos he has previously taken, combining them into one harmonious image that usually plays with size and perspective. The pairings are usually two things you would never imagine together, making for some fun and creative imagery.
McMennamy makes no attempt to hide the fact that these images are created by digitally slicing two photos in half and putting them together to form a new image, as you can see from the results below.
While the shapes and colors are lined up, it’s very clear that you’re looking at two different images.
Tractors and heavy machinery are turned into giant mechanisms for food delivery, while an ice cream cone becomes an actual snowy mountain top.
Some of the photos combos make a statement, while others just seem to be weird for weird’s sake.
