Even If Art Isn't Your Thing, You Have To See What He Just Did At The Louvre

We all have that one friend who groans at the thought of doing anything that could be considered a cultural experience. In fact, you might even be that friend. For these people, waiting in long lines at art museums to watch people stare (for way, way too long) at splattered canvases and paintings of naked cherubs seems like the polar opposite of a good time.

But anything can turn into an awesome experience if you have a sense of humor about it. Just ask this guy. BoredPanda user Mr. Angry decided to visit the Louvre one day (albeit begrudgingly) so he could pop some fun captions on a few of the paintings. Art snobs might be offended by the stunt, but I feel like that’s probably the point. And it’s awesome.

If having fun in the world’s most famous art museum is wrong, then I don’t want to be right. (But if you don’t feel like getting scowled at, maybe don’t read French painting captions with a southern accent. I might have learned that the hard way? Just kidding. I definitely did.)

Anyway, keep getting down with your bad self, Mr. Angry. We feel you.

This Artist's Garbage Is Infested With Tiny Monsters, But That's Okay

Artist Steve Casino has a problem. No matter what he tosses in the trash — whether it be dental floss, a can, or a walnut shell — it always ends up coming back for more.

The funny thing about this situation is that when these bits of garbage return, they’re not alone.

These little guys pop up just about everywhere.

Of course, they’re not always that monstrous.

And they’re certainly very adaptable.

You’ve probably figured out by now that these are, in fact, art projects. They’re all part of a series that Casino creates using clay, paint, and discarded items from his home. Using the form of the discarded item, Casino crafts one-of-a-kind creatures inside of them. The results are pretty adorable.

The items, like this Altoids tin, are carefully cut apart before monsters are added to the mix.

Casino will use just about anything to create his bizarre little friends.

Because he works with objects of all shapes, sizes, and materials, his creatures are unique to their environments.

Each one has a personality of its own.

“Andy Warhol always reminded me of a monster from the Muppets,” Casino explains.

We’re inclined to agree.

And in case you were wondering how it’s done…

…he was kind enough to let the world in on his secret. Pun intended.

You can see more of Casino’s work on his website, as well as on Facebook and Instagram. He’s best known for the paintings he creates on peanut shells, so you can see his ever-growing collection of those while you’re at it.

Getting Your Car Vandalized Is No Fun -- Unless This Guy Does It

If you came outside one morning to discover that someone had used your car as a canvas for their personal expression, you’d probably be rightfully ticked off. Destroying someone else’s property is a crappy thing to do. But as with anything, there are exceptions.

The exception in this case is artist and photographer Max Siedentopf, who prowls the night and gives people’s cars some awesome makeovers. And it’s all done without harming the vehicles.

Siedentopf calls the project Slapdash Supercars.

He uses cardboard and masking tape to add spoilers and other zippy accessories to ordinary cars.

Since these additions can be peeled off, the “vandalism” is temporary and harmless.

(And no, masking tape does not damage paint. That’s why painters use it.)

He finds these cars on the streets of Amsterdam, and specifically targets the most plain-looking cars he can find.

He has to work quickly, lest someone spot him. We assume that he constructs the big pieces at home.

When he’s done, he snaps a photo and slips back into the night.

People then find these weird creations in the morning.

(via BoredPanda)

So why does Siedentopf do this? For him, it’s a statement about individuality. In an interview with Vice, he said, “Individuality, self-expression, and status are more important than ever these days. But for some reason, cars are getting personalized less and less, [even though] it could be a great form of self-expression. I thought I’d do people a favor by giving them a custom-made supercar.”

Well, we can’t argue with that. You can see more of Siedentopf’s work on his website, as well as on Facebook and Instagram.

By Using Some Cardboard, One Man Makes His Sunset Selfies Into Something Epic

Taking photos at sunset is nothing new. After all, with all the gorgeous colors and textures in the sky, it’s the perfect backdrop for any picture. The only thing you have to worry about getting lost in the back light.

But if you’re John Marshall, back light is your best friend. Marshall, a TV producer and author, was living alone on an island in Maine for 30 days. He decided to use his free time to start a project, and to do so, all he needed was some cardboard and a few beautiful Maine sunsets.

Mars House of Pizza

“When Mars House of Pizza says ‘WE DELIVER ANYWHERE,’ they mean it.”

Marshall made three rules for himself when he started this undertaking:

  1. He couldn’t have help, and had only the 10 seconds of the camera’s self-timer to compose the shot.

  2. He could only make props from materials found in his cabin.

  3. He could only use tools available in the cabin to do so.

So nothing fancy ever came anywhere near this project. He found reference material on the Internet, and then he simply cut out some shapes and headed to the beach. We’ve included Marshall’s own captions under each photo, because he’s funnier than we are.

The Chameleon

“While I was watching the sunset tonight, I couldn’t stop blinking. ‘Hey. Do I have something in my eye?’ I asked Keith, my chameleon friend. ‘Yeah,’ Keith said. ‘It’s a bug.’ ‘Can you get it out?’ I asked.”

The Flamingo

“‘In the yoga world, we call this the Standing Tree Pose,’ I said. ‘Oh, in the flamingo world, we call this standing,’ the flamingo replied.”

The Frog Date

“I was about to tell the waiter about the big fly in my soup when my date cleared her throat. ‘Are you gonna eat that?’ she asked.”

The Gorilla

“Today, I was enjoying a sunset banana down by the lake when the most amazing thing happened. All of a sudden, this warm breeze started blowing across my neck, and it smelled just like bananas, too.”

The Grizzly Bear

“When the grizzly bear said he had a frog in his throat, I didn’t know I’d need to reach in and rescue it.”

The Kayak Horse

“For anyone who has ever wondered if their horse would make a good kayak partner…I wouldn’t count on it. Mine didn’t pick up his paddle once.”

The Mermaid

“When I finally got up the nerve to approach the beautiful mermaid down on the beach, a friend suggested I bring her a bouquet of roses. But I had a better idea.”

The Ring Toss

“I can’t think of a better way to wind down at the end of the day than with a little Rhino Ring Toss. For anyone interested, all you need is a rhinoceros and a ring, and you’re good to go.”

The Shark

“Enough with the begging. This is why you do not feed pets at the table.”

Troll Haircut

“The problem with Troll Haircut Day is the brutal monotony of it all. ‘Tapered to a point?’ I asked for the 74th time.”

And here’s the reverse angle!

Not as epic, but totally adorable.

You can see many more of Marshall’s images on his website, along with some of his other creative endeavors. They’re also on Facebook, Instagram, and Tumblr.

But Marshall does more than take hilarious shadow pictures. He’s also the author of a new book, Wide-Open World, which tells of his family’s adventures as they travel the world volunteering. You can purchase it on his website, too.

No One's Life Is Perfect, And One Photographer Is Blowing Instagram's Cover

Have you ever scrolled through those seemingly perfect photos on Instagram and said, “Why doesn’t my life look like that?” As pretty as those pictures are, it’s easy to feel discouraged when you’re surrounded by clutter in your everyday life.

But consider this your first lesson in photography — and its total lack of objectivity. That’s the idea behind this cheeky series by Thai photographer Chompoo Baritone, who recreates Instagram photos to reveal what’s really happening beyond the square.

Her reimagined photos include some real-life clutter.

She also includes some awkward bystanders in her shots, who seem to be wondering why on Earth someone would take a picture there.

Along with several other Instagram photographers, Baritone pokes fun at the way some people use Instagram and other social media platforms to make their lives seem much more beautiful than they really are.

The project is also a study in how we carefully edit our experiences to be palatable and attractive to others. Is it dishonesty? Is it vanity? Or is it just a way to regain a small amount of control over what life throws our way?

(via BoredPanda)

Baritone is currently studying photography at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang. She’s relatively new to creating commentary through photography, but if these pieces are any indication of what’s to come, we’re excited to see where her vision goes from here!
