Brave Rafting Instructors Used Their Skills To Rescue An Unexpected Friend

Using their skills, a group of rafting instructors made an amazing rescue last Thursday, saving someone stranded on the bank of the Nolichucky River in Tennessee. It was a daring mission, and the saved party couldn’t be happier.

Who needed saving? A bear cub! You can see her here in the raft.

Rafters had seen the baby for a few days prior to her rescue, noting that she looked hungry and alone. The owner of USA Raft Company, Matt Moses, said that there was no sign of a mother bear. When rafting guide Danny Allen approached, she was eager to climb into his boat.

The 14-pound American black bear was brought to Appalachian Bear Rescue, an organization that cares for orphaned cubs.

She was malnourished and dehydrated.

Dubbed Noli Bear, the cub got a full medical examination and is currently staying at the rescue center.

For now, Noli Bear will eat delicious meals of yogurt, grapes, and puppy chow, which will help her put on the weight she needs.

According to the rescue group, she has a very healthy appetite.

Noli Bear will live at the center for a few months while she recuperates.

The Appalachian Bear Rescue “hope[s] that this publicity…will encourage people to learn more about black bears.”

“We fight centuries of myth and misconception regarding these wonderful animals,” the organization said.

After all, how could you be scared of this snuggly girl?!

Once she’s healthy enough, Noli Bear, whose name comes from the river where she was found, will be released back into the wild. But first, she needs to grow to be about 50 pounds, which the rescue group says will take several months. For now, she and her healthy appetite will be calling the Appalachian Bear Rescue home.
