Carlsband, California, resident Kris Anderson loves bringing her dogs Georgia and Chico to the nearby Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve for hiking adventures. The cuties adore exploring all the nature and fun along the trails, but on a recent trip things took a turn for the worse.
Georgia, a shar pei mix, found herself too tempted by a rabbit and set off running into the wilderness after it. Though it wasn’t the first time the pup had been distracted by a critter on their trek, it was the first time she didn’t return after a short while.
Anderson, her daughter, Sarah Lucas, and local park officials searched for hours hoping to find the playful pup, but couldn’t find a trace. She and her daughter returned to the park day after day, but knowing there was a large population of wild coyotes in the area, Anderson was having a hard time holding onto hope.
But after a week of coming up empty, Anderson woke up to a familiar sound: Georgia bounding in through the doggie door and right onto her bed.
The tough girl had somehow found her way across the 35-mile distance to their home, showing up with only a few scratches and in need of a good meal.

She must have really been paying attention on all those car rides out to the park! Meanwhile, I still need Google to help me find my way home on a regular basis. What a smart, resilient little lady!
