It often seems like there’s no corner of the planet that hasn’t been razed and developed, so when nature reclaims abandoned, man-made properties, it’s always lovely to witness.
But the Anping Tree House in Tainan, Taiwan, is a peculiar case of natural reclamation. Not only has the factory been abandoned for over 70 years, but a single organism completely transformed the once-industrious location into something strangely beautiful.
The factory originally belonged to Tait & Co. — an international trading company that was among the first of its kind.
When the Japanese overtook Taiwan in World War II, the Salt Association of Japan forcibly claimed the factory.
When World War II ended, the factory was soon taken over by the Taiwan Salt Company.
The salt industry in Taiwan steadily declined, and the company abandoned this outpost.
As the building lay in shambles, a single banyan tree engulfed the entire structure.
The tree’s many branches can be seen both inside and outside of the building.
Visitors to the Anping Tree House can tour the historic location, which many believe to be haunted.

I have a hard time believing that this place is haunted. I mean, just look at the twisting, spiraling tree limbs. The scene looks pretty welcoming and serene if you ask me.
