We may be just a few weeks into summer, but if you’re battling scorching temperatures, odds are, you’re already looking forward to autumn. The good news is that it’s not too early to plan a strip to visit some of America’s most stunning fall foliage destinations, and while planning may not help cool you off much, just looking at these photos is bound to make you feel better.
Pictured above, the Adirondack Mountains, the largest natural wilderness region in the Eastern U.S., is at its best during the fall. The 170-mile Olympic Trail connecting Lake Ontario to Lake Champlain is ideal, featuring oak, maple, birch and beech trees that explode with brilliant orange, fiery red and golden yellow hues among the forested landscape.
The Berkshires, Massachusetts

Leaf peeping in the Berkshires is renowned for its especially magnificent displays, with winding roads lined with reds, golds and sometimes deep scarlet hues, along with farms, lakes and meadows as well as a backdrop of mountain summits.
Blue Ridge Parkway, Virginia/North Carolina/Tennessee

It’s hard to beat a scenic drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall, particularly from the end of September through the end of October. The road makes its way through Southern Virginia, into North Carolina, and culminates at the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee.
Upper Peninsula, Michigan

This gorgeous finger of land that juts into Lake Superior offers a kaleidoscope of vibrant red, orange and gold hues across the state’s northernmost point during autumn. Some of the best views can be found in Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park as well as Tahquamenon Falls State Park, home to beautiful Tahquamenon Falls.
Aspen, Colorado
