Pet dander is one of the most common allergens in humans, lots of people are sadly allergic to dogs and cats, but have you ever heard of a dog allergic to humans?
Well, Robin Herman at Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue thought she had seen it all, but a black lab named Adam shocked her – he’s allergic to people.
When Adam first arrived at Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue in Indianapolis, he was a mess, so Robin began feeding him the best food available and gave him flea medication, she told RTV6. He wasn’t progressing as fast as she would like, so she took him to a vet who gave him a blood test. She was stunned when the vet told her Adam was allergic to people. “Humans?” Herman exclaimed. “I thought [the veterinarian] was kidding. She said just like we can be allergic to dogs, he’s allergic to human dander.”
Though she was thrown by the diagnosis, Herman said that she’s still hopeful that the “smart… great dog” can be cured of his symptoms. She’s currently raising money for his treatment and says she won’t rest until he has made a full recovery.
“The vet seems to think we can fix him,” she added. “They put a serum together just like with kids allergies, and he starts on allergy shots this week.”
When Adam first arrived, he looked pretty miserable.
