Like many girls, Tawny Willoughby spent many hours perfecting her tan in high school.
“I probably laid [in a tanning bed] an average of 4-5 times a week,” she wrote on Facebook. “I laid frequently because my tan faded very fast.”
Tawny thought she was being smart about her tanning. “I never laid in the tanning bed and in the sun in the same day. I never laid in the tanning bed twice in one day.” Unfortunately, Willoughby got skin cancer anyway.
“If anyone needs a little motivation to not lay in the tanning bed and sun here ya go! This is what skin cancer treatment can look like,” she revealed on Facebook.
Now 27-years-old, Willoughby says she has been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma five times, and squamous cell carcinoma once. She wrote on Facebook that she goes to the dermatologist every 6 to 12 months, and she usually has a skin cancer removed at each checkup.
