Hot dogs are a summer staple. They’re inexpensive, packed with protein, and easy to make on the grill or in a microwave. But even if you don’t have any cooking appliances handy, you can cook hot dogs in a flash using an empty Pringles can and just the power of the sun. It sounds crazy, but the silver lining in a Pringles can holds in heat and can cook a hot dog even on cloudy days! If you want to try making a chip can solar cooker, check out the tutorial below.
Use a ruler or a straight edge to draw a rectangle on the side of the can with a permanent marker.
Use an X-Acto knife to cut out the rectangle and save the leftover cardboard for later.
Bend the leftover cardboard and glue it to the bottom side of the can. This will help the can stay upright.
If you want, you can add a layer of plastic wrap over the rectangular hole to help keep the heat inside of the can.

This may not be the most practical way to cook a hot dog, but it’s definitely the coolest option. This would be a fun science project for kids while they’re on summer vacation. I might even try this just for the heck of it!
