If you love castles you will love traveling to Wales. After all, Wales is home to over 600 castles. Many of these castles are incredibly old and full of history, including barbaric wars, strange family affairs and so much more. Despite everything these castle walls have witnessed, somehow they remain magically preserved to this day.
No matter where you go in Wales you are sure to find a castle somewhere nearby. Here are some of the most enchanting castles in Wales, all of which look like they belong in a fairytale as opposed to the real world.
1. Kidwelly Castle in Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire
Many ugly battles took place at this castle after the Normans built it during the 13th century.

2. Cardiff Castle in Cardiff
Cardiff Castle sits at the heart of the city beaming with 2,000 years of history. It is among the most well known castles in Wales.

3. Caerphilly Castle
Moats and watery islands surround this castle. It was recently used in the BBC series Merlin, and was built back in the 13th century as a part of the campaign to conquer Glamorgan.

4. Margam Castle in Port Talbot, Neath
This Tudor Gothic mansion is breathtakingly beautiful in so many ways, largely due to its phenomenal architecture.

5. Caernarfon Castle in Caernarfon, Gwynedd
This castle is of World Heritage Status and has some of the highest castle walls you have ever seen.

6. Carreg Cennen Castle in Trapp, Carmarthenshire
This historically rich castle is located on the western corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It dates back to at least the 12th century. According to local legend, during the reign of King Arthur the castle belonged to the Welsh Knight Urien Reheged and his son Owain.

7. Bodelwyddan Castle in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire
This castle was built as a manor house around 1460 by the Humphreys family of Anglesey. It stands open to the public today.

8. Dinefwr Castle
Historically this castle is linked to the rule of the Lord Rhys, it sits atop a hill with breathtaking views of Tywi valley below.

9. Penrhyn Castle in Llandegai, Gwynedd
When the Pennant family originally built this massive castle during the 19th century it is estimated to have cost them £150,000, which is equivalent to £49,500,000 ($75,7070,775) today.

11. Beaumaris Castle on the Isle of Anglesey
This castle was built in honor of Edward I’s campaign to take over the north of Wales. Construction on the castle began in 1295 but was halted in 1330 and never completed.
