As much as we wash our hands, carry around hand sanitizer, and cover our noses when we sneeze, germs have us beat when it comes to reproducing and gaining territory on our personal belongings. It’s a wonder we’re not sick all the time.
Here are some everyday objects that are secretly covered in germs. It’s enough to make you want to shower forever.
1. ATM machines
Even during a recession, you may be at risk of coming in contact with harmful bacteria when dealing with ATM machines. Nearly 47 percent of all credit cards are home to harmful bacteria. It’s not like cash is any more hygienic, though.
2. Car seats
This is where the remnants of any traffic snack end up. It’s also where your sweaty butt goes.
3. Tanning beds
This hot bed is also a hotbed for germs like the herpes virus and papillomavirus, which can cause warts. There are many ways a tanning bed can make your skin look like death.
4. Office mugs
Because there’s usually no dishwasher in your office, you’re more than likely scrubbing the bacteria on your mugs with more bacteria.
5. Shopping carts
About 70 percent of all shopping carts contain traces of fecal matter. I don’t think I need to remind you that this is what you put your food and lazy children into every week.
6. Swimming pools
This may not be a surprise, but 60 percent of all pools contain fecal matter of some kind, and 58 percent contain E. coli.
7. Playgrounds
Kids are essentially walking bags of plague. Traces of blood, mucus, saliva, urine, and fecal matter can be found all over places like this, and that doesn’t even include the slide.
8. Soda fountains
Some soda fountains have traces of bacteria that could lead to staph infections. Not that you need any more reasons not to have soda with your fast food.
9. Cellphones
An article was released recently that said that most beards are home to traces of fecal matter. Sorry to say, but it’s not just bearded bros who have poop on their faces. In a recent study in the U.K., one in six cellphones had fecal matter on them.
10. Purses
Whether you’re leaving it on the bar floor or on the subway seat next to you, chances are your purse has more than just your make up in it. I’m talking bar germs, ladies.
11. Keyboards
Studies show that keyboards boast five times more germs than toilet seats. This is especially bad news for those of us who like to bring our laptops into the bathroom with us.
So yeah, basically everything is covered in germs and there is nothing we can do except drink lots of water and orange juice to build up our immune systems. In any case, the world is an ailing sphere.
