If you think your first-world problems of your brand new phone dying or a slow internet connection while watching Netflix are among the worst, it turns out a small group of people in New Jersey have you beat. The borough of Tavistock was created for the sole purpose of a country club being open for golf on Sundays.
Back in early 1900's, the local Haddon Country Club was governed by a blue law that prohibited sporting activities on Sundays. This didn't sit well with the local golfing enthusiasts who decided to secede from Haddonfield, New Jersey in 1921 to create Tavistock, which was free of the prohibiting laws.
Tavistock is the smallest municipality by population in New Jersey, with only 5 residents on record in the 2010 Census. That isn't too hard to believe when you realize the entire borough is only about a quarter mile large in area.
They maintain a total of 0.17 miles of roadways, three households, and their own mayor under the Walsh Act which allows three to five non-partisans to form a government. I doubt their meetings are very long, other than to schedule their next golf game.
