This man traveled 200 miles after suffering a horrific bear attack. Check out his amazing story!

Bear Grylls may be the definition of a mountain man in modern times, but long before they had their own TV shows, men had to survive to tell their tale. Such is the case with Hugh Glass, an American fur trapper that survived a battle with a bear, but not before a long journey home.

In August of 1823, Glass was scouting ahead from his trading partners. He came across a grizzly bear and two cubs that charged and attacked him before he could fire his rifle. After being thrown to the ground, Glass fought back with his knife and stabbed the bear repeatedly.

He survived the attack and managed to kill the bear with the help of his trading partners. He was left badly mauled and unconscious. His trading partners began digging his grave, believing he would never survive his injuries.

He woke up, set his leg, allowed maggots to eat his festering flesh on his wounds to prevent gangrene, and crawled for six weeks to the Cheyenne River. He crafted a raft and sailed to Fort Kiowa, 200 miles away from where he was originally attacked.

What's he got to show for his amazing journey? His own NPC in World of Warcraft.
