The United States is one of only two countries that have not ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
The Convention on the Human Rights of the Child was held in 1989.
It set up basic rights for children around the world and was signed by many countries. These include minimum rights and freedoms that should be respected by governments. They afford every child dignity regardless of race, gender, economic status, religion or any other number of factors.
While the United States signed this document, they have yet to ratify it. Somalia is the only other country that has not done so. Countries that have ratified include South African, Thailand, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Mexico.
