Humans and domesticated animals far outweigh wild animals!

It's a scary, wild jungle out there with thousands of miles of unexplored territory filled with who knows what. Simply thinking about it can give you a sense of being surrounded, trapped, and closed in on.

That is, until you realize that humans and domesticated animals outweigh wild vertebrates by a long, long shot.

In 2000, human's dry mass was around 125 million metric tons with domestic animals (pets, cattle, horses, etc.) Totaling around 300 million tons. Together that is 425 million tons of weight! It's estimated that all wild vertebrates in the world total up to a measly 10 million tons, making civilization the heavyweight champions of the world.

Feeling pretty assured now that you know we have a handle on things, mass wise? Think again. The same study estimated that plants make up 1,100,000,000,000 metric tons of mass and bacteria makes up 500,000,000,000 metric tons. We're just counting down the time until plants decide to become sentient and attack us with everything they have!
