Even the Muppets have stunt doubles! Learn more

The Muppets usually perform their own stunts, but sometimes it does become necessary to use stunt doubles to create certain scenes or to accomplish certain moves. Stunt doubles are dressed in full body suits and are only used in long shots with the regular puppet and performer intercut for close-up shots.

A full-body Miss Piggy double was constructed and used in some of the motorcycle riding scenes during the police chase in 'The Great Muppet Caper'. Kiran Shah performs the stunts for Miss Piggy.

In 'The Muppets Take Manhattan' Miss Piggy is mugged in Central Park. She chased the thief on roller-skates and then leapt off a hill. The roller-skating doubles are shown in a long shot and the face is deliberately obscured. Cheryl Blackman, Denise Lucadamo and Christa Tomasulo were the doubles in this instance.

Stunt drivers are also needed in scenes where the Muppets drive a vehicle, and there have been occasions where the stunt drivers were crouched inside the hood of cars while watching the road through a television monitor. Most often, however, the Muppet stunts have been created through careful rigging and radio controls.

The arrival of green screen technology has allowed performers to be matted out completely, reducing the need for Muppet stunt doubles.
