A human bite may be more dangerous than an animal bite. Find out why!

The wilderness is full of untold dangers that lurk in the forests, lakes, and mountains. Creatures big and small pose huge threats and we're all scared of one thing: Their mouths!

Turns out, the real mouth you should be worried about is your next-door neighbor's.

Humans will bite, or at least come in contact with another human's teeth, for a ton of different reasons. Fists come into contact with teeth in a fight, or an unruly child will take a chomp out of someone's arm when they let their guard down. If the bite breaks the skin it has an incredible risk of infection.

In fact, human bites are often more dangerous than most animal bites due to the germs some human mouths carry that cause infections that are extremely difficult to treat. Surgery, or at least a heavy helping of antibiotics is common on an infected human bite.

While you may brush off a bite from a toddler, try to treat it as if it were a venomous snake bite. Seek medical aid as soon as possible, especially if it's bleeding, and don't get the wound anywhere near your mouth. If swelling, redness, puss, or pain appear, get to a doctor immediately.
