Astronauts don't do laundry in space! You'll never guess what they do with dirty clothes

Chris Hadfield was interviewed by Conan O'Brien after he had returned from the International Space Station. He launched into the limelight after he maintained a variety of social networking accounts to keep in touch with people on Earth.

For example, Chris Hadfield created a music video in space, to Elton John's song 'Space Oddity'.

During the interview, Conan O'Brien asked Chris Hadfield if he did any laundry in space. And, as you might have guessed, water is a limited resource to have while you're floating in space. Astronauts don't want to waste it cleaning their dirty underwear.

Instead, astronauts wear their clothing until the clothes are basically unwearable, and then they toss the smelly laundry into an unmanned resupply ship.

According to Hadfield, "When it gets full of trash, we close the hatch and it undocks and backs away and falls down into the atmosphere; so your dirty laundry actually gets incinerated in the atmosphere."

It's fascinating when you think about it. At any point in time, someone's Fruit of the Loom undies could be incinerated right above your head and you would never even know!
