The Guinness Book of World Records has a lot of crazy records in it. And a few obscure ones like the record for "highest formal dinner." This record was set by a group of ten British men on the Lhakpa Ri peak in Tibet.
In order to obtain the record, the group had to have a formal dinner with at least 6 diners and 3 courses. They had to carry all the challenge-related equipment up the mountain and remove it all when they were done. And they had to sit on a formal chair at a formal table and be dressed in formal attire.
The men lugged all their dining equipment to the summit of Lhakpa Ri but were forced to descend slightly due to high winds. They settled at 6805 meters up and proceeded to have a five course meal that included duck, couscous, biscuits, vegetables and birthday cake.
As part of their effort to break the record, the group also fundraised over 25,000 pounds for the British Lung Foundation. The cause was close to their hearts as their leader, Henry Shelford had suffered and was then cured of a lung disease called Sarcoidosis.
