Marijuana was partly made illegal in the US as an effort to suppress Mexicans!

Marijuana is a preparation of the Cannabis plant intended for use as a psychoactive drug and medicine. The principal psychoactive constituent of marijuana is tetrahydrocannabinol.

Marijuana is most often consumed for it's psychoactive and physiological effect which can include heightened mood or euphoria, relaxation, and increase in appetite. Some unwanted side-effects include short-term memory, dry mouth, impaired motor skills, reddening of the eyes and feeling of paranoia or anxiety.

The use of marijuana was once associated with oppressed ethnic groups! The intense anti-marijuana movement of the 1930s dovetailed nicely with the intense anti-Chicano movement of the same decade. They associated the use of marijuana with Mexican Americans, and by banning marijuana they thought this would discourage Mexican-American subcultures from developing!
